13 In Between the Trees - final presentation 2/6

Meth, Ta, Sai and Tip were interested in the space in-between the existing trees in the site. It is very nice and pleasant - they believe. Their idea is to create the space between the trees usable for some outdoor fuctions without too much interruptting the terrains. And then they want to have the building in the area where there is not tree at all, and create the building space similar to the space in between the trees. They like the very flexible, gentle and soft quality of it.

The began with studing the space at the site with their one-to-one scale model.


Then they keep developing their study of the space between the trees and the contour of the site.

The come up with a diagram of spatial relationship between the trees and the activties that could be places in between.
The contour could be fixed and extended to meet different kinds of activity.

The space for one person sitting is simplified as one square of 1 x 1 m. and can bee placed in different shapes in between the trees upon different activities.



The final model. The main space where most of the activities for training are the platforms in btween the trees. The guest rooms and the other indoor activites are scattering around in the same manner where there are not so many trees on the left side of the site.




The try to immitate somehow the similar kind of space in between the trees and the one with the guestrooms - the small holes in the roof that would let the trees inside grow, quite a nice space.

12 Water Collector - final presentation 1/6

Benz, Zing, Name and Tool came up with this idea of a building that besides the required functions, it should be able to act as a rain water collector and preserve. Although presently, the school has several rain water preserve tanks, they are not enough to keep water to spend for the whole year. They began with the idea of big roofs that act as rain water collectors. When the rain water falls from one level to another, it could create a temporary wall. Also water tanks could be part of some walls of the building.


They got the idea from visiting the Sea Gypsy Village where the villagers just use simple metal sheet to get water from the roof into their simple containers.

The final planning of the project. The main space for all the training activities is a big space on the front part of the building, also a big roof to collect the most water for the building itself and the school. The small rooms on the back of the site are the guest rooms where the smaller roofs could collect water to be used within each unit.


The lower level of the building is simply toilet and water tanks.

11 Final Presentation Day

Last Monday September 24th, we had our final presentation of the six projects design for Baan Leam Tong Community and Resource Center at INDA studio.

Aslo we had several guests: A group of students and teachers from Regent International School, Pattaya led by Paul Crouch; Eddy Buranakul, the president of Far Diow Foundation; Tong and Go the architects who went over to Phi Phi Island with us for the workshop on their own expenses; my T.A. Sorawit, Isara and Namkhang; Deaw, an architect from DBALP.

Actually since early afternoon, the Regent school group, Eddy and myself had a meeting to set up all the prodedures to move the project on. Also Paul will go for a meeting of Round Square in India early this month, he will also have to present the project.

The presentation began arond 4:30 pm.

The audiences from Regent International School participated a lot on asking questions. As non-archiecture major students, they were able to come up with very precise and practical questions ! Very impressive indeed.

We finished around 7:30 pm. and had happy dinner altogether before the Regent Team head back to Pattaya.

Finally we have not yet made the final decision yet on which project we are going to choose. Most likely it will be one main project and then we will integrate good ideas from the other projects. Let's see.
