18 Working on Design Development Phase

Although we did not update our blog for about four months.. it is not that nothing has happened. In fact we have been working very hard.

After we finished the final presentation of the six schematic designs, the only team left with us are the six guys of the 4th year: Joe, Meth, Zing, Ta, Hin and Benz. We chose the Hammock scheme as the main design to be developed. Since it is the most compact scheme among the six, so that we would not need to cut more trees. Then we applied the idea of water tank and water collector from the other two schemes. While we still use the idea of semi-outdoor space under the trees. Many other ideas in every scheme were reconsidered and some were applied.

We had many brainstorming sessions during the past few months..

Pan kindly gave a construction drawing class for all the kids.

This is more or less the model of the design we use as our main design.

Then we began to work with the engineers: CM One. Somnuk and Somchai the structural engineers helped us a lot to realize the design development of the building. So far, we arrived to the state when we can begin a construction! Almost a construction drawings.. there are few details left to be solved.

17 Water Pipe - final presentaton 6/6

Joke, Kwang, Bee and Paan were working on several ideas. First they were facinated by this idea that sand can filter, and transform dirty water into a clean one. Their quite ambitious idea was then, to make a building that could produce and collect clean water to people. When they were at the site they were not able to scope down their idea yet, as you can see from the one to one scale model is still not so clear - something to play with water.

However, after coming back, they focus pretty on water collecting and the pipe system that would be integrated into other requirements of the training and resource center.

The final design with their analysis and integration of all the systems in the main building.

The planning separates the main training space from the guestrooms.

The main feature of the building is the blue PVC pipes and the cylinder concrete tank to collect water. This kind of tank is very common in a rural area in Thailand. A concrete ring of 60-100 cm diameter with 40-50 cm high could be bought anywhere. It is also very simple to assemble.

16 Prefabricated Modular - final presentation 5/6

Another 4-girl group, Preaw, Oil, Pear and Nam. They began with the idea of making something simple and easy to build by something in modular system and also it could be able to pre-fabricated from a factory. So at the site, you just have to assemble everything to become a building They found fishing net quite interesting because while it is in a modular system, it is very flexible - so perhaps it can be used to accomodate with uneven slopes in the site.

The one-to-one-scale model made out of PET bottles, which is one of the biggest garbage around...They wanted to communicate this modular, pre-fabricated system and moreover, if possible, some recycle materials. The small space was cover by the so-called net structure by hanging.

After coming back from Phi Phi Island, they explored several structures to meet their concept of prefabricated and flexiblity.

The structure system that could become different architectural parts that could accommodate different activities.

Very nice and interesting models.

The most difficult part in their project is to map everything on to the site.
